A panel of expert speakers at the Environmental Finance's Americas Focus day conference considered how the systemic forces of global regulations, policy and social equity focus will transform sustainable finance over the next decade.
According to Terry Tamminen, president of 7th Generation Advisors: "Regulation works in terms of levelling the playing field and helping with a sense of urgency. Many climate models look to 2050 but what we do in the next 10 years is the most important."
Social equity is also an important component of the discussion as well, he said.
"It is very unfair for us to make a few people pay for the pollution that we are all creating, directly or indirectly. It is also a great waste of talent and energy to marginalise entire communities that will be part of the solution going forward. We have to create tides globally that lift all boats," he added.
The discussion, which was moderated by gold sponsor BNP Paribas, was the first event in a series of six taking place in 2021 as part of Environmental Finance's ESG in Fixed Income Global Series.
