Sustainalytics has been named as the leading verifier under the Climate Bond Standards in 2020.
The company was responsible for 35.4% of the certifications in the market, according to data from the Environmental Finance Bond database*, with DNV GL in second place with 21.4% of the market share.
The Climate Bonds Standard and Certification Scheme is a labelling scheme for bonds, loans and other debt instruments. Scientific criteria ensure that it is consistent with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement to limit warming to under 2°C.
The scheme is used globally by bond issuers, governments, investors and the financial markets.
Last week, Environmental Finance reported that Sustainalytics had retained its crown as the biggest second party opinion provider of GSSS bonds, excluding deals certified under the Climate Bonds Standard – and expects the size of its business to double this year as the market continues to boom.

*Methodology: market share is calculated by the number of issuers covered by an external reviewer's second party opinion in 2020. If multiple second party opinions were produced for a single issuer by an external reviewer in 2020 that issuer is only counted once for that external reviewer.
