ICE launches transition risk assessment product for 'underserved' asset classes

ICE has launched a data product it says will provide transition risk assessments for “underserved segments” of fixed income including mortgage-backed securities and real estate, to support reporting of financed emissions and climate stress testing.

It provides emissions estimates and portfolio analytics across various fixed income asset classes, covering Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions for municipal bonds, mortgage-backed securities, and adds to existing coverage of sovereign, corporate equity, and private companies.

ICE said it covers about 110 million US properties and more than 4.2 million fixed income securities globally and is aligned with reporting of financed emissions under the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials framework.

Larry Lawrence, head of ICE Climate, said: “Mortgages and mortgage securities can represent more than 20% of bank balance sheets, leading to a growing need for data to help meet regulatory disclosure and support stress testing to inform decision-making.”
