Brief description of the data offering

Upright measures net impact in four dimensions – environment, health, society, and knowledge – and 19 subcategories. Examples of costs include, e.g. GHG emissions by a car factory, usage of highly-skilled labour by an IT company, and damage to human health caused by sugar-sweetened beverages. Examples of benefits include e.g. improvements in health caused by a cancer medicine, knowledge created by research equipment, and pollution removed by a catalytic converter. Where and how do you source your data?

The Upright net impact model consists of two main parts: the macromodel and the company model. The main data source used by the macromodel is a database of 250M+ scientific articles. Other data sources include databases from the World Bank, IMF, WHO, OECD, Eurostat, IPCC, CDC, USDA, IHME, and others. The company model combines the information produced by the macromodel with information on specific companies, most importantly information on what those companies are doing (i.e. what their products and services are) to produce an estimate of the impact of each company.
