Brief description of the data offering
The SDGs and SDG sub-goals have been structured into a taxonomy of product categories that positively or negatively contribute to the SDGs. This taxonomy is operationalized through specific rules and guidance. With transparent (I.e. traceable/auditable) objectivity at its core, SDI Classification Data focuses on companies’ product and service-related contributions to the UN SDGs. The magnitude of the (positive/negative) contribution is calculated from the revenues (sales) associated with these solutions. The SDI Innovation Outlook quantifies the alignment of a company’s patent portfolio with the UN SDGs.
Where and how do you source your data?
The SDI AOP is an asset owner led initiative launched by APG, AustralianSuper, BCI and PGGM. The asset owners manage the classification, rules and guidance. Data provider Entis translates the SDI taxonomy and guidance into the actual classification using data from companies’ annual and financial reports, investor presentations, websites, and product pages. Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, combined with human validation, provide scale and continuous improvement to the SDI dataset.
Companies are classified based on revenues derived from solutions as ‘majority SDI’, ‘decisive SDI’ or ‘non-SDI’. The underlying data is provided to allow users to choose their own threshold levels they may want to apply. This is the first step towards assessing companies’ real-world contributions to the SDGs.
What is the cost for your data offering?
License fees are based on the usage of the data, for example mandates, passive funds, benchmarks, portfolio construction, structured products. ISS STOXX is the distributor of the SDI data and provides various subscriber support services.
