Brief description of the data offering
Through IBAT, users are able to download valuable information about the potential biodiversity exposure or risks their operation sites are subjected to. The data downloads comes in the form of both bespoke risk screening reports and GIS (sample downloads). These datasets have been used by many IBAT users for two main purposes:
- Integration of biodiversity elements into a corporate's nature strategy
- Access to biodiversity dataset for sustainability reporting purposes such as TNFD, EU CSRD ESRS E4 standards, SBTN, GRI, CDP and SFDR
This year, IBAT launched a new report – the Disclosure Preparation Report, which focuses on helping organisations reporting against both TNFD and GRI. The Disclosure Preparation report is designed to be relevant for:
- TNFD recommended disclosure Strategy D.
- The Locate phase of the TNFD LEAP approach.
- GRI 101: Biodiversity 2024 Disclosure 101-4 Identification of biodiversity impacts.
- GRI 101: Biodiversity 2024 Disclosure 101-5 Locations with biodiversity impacts.
Where and how do you source your data?
- The World Database on Protected Areas is a joint project between UN Environment Programme and the IUCN. Data are submitted by governments, international secretariates, regional entities, NGOs and individuals to the Protected Planet team at UNEP-WCMC.
- The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species follows a standardised process using the rigorous IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria and guidelines, ensuring the highest standards of scientific documentation, information management, expert review, and justification.
- Key Biodiversity Areas are proposed through a bottom-up process following the ‘Global Standard for the Identification of Key Biodiversity Areas’ and using the 'Guidelines for using A global standard for the identification of Key Biodiversity Areas', these sites are then reviewed independently and nominated for acceptance into the World Database on Key Biodiversity Areas.
