Re/insurer of the year: Zurich Insurance Company

Zurich Insurance Company has won this accolade for the second year in a row. The judging panel commended its "increased commitments made in 2022".

In 2022, these commitments included pledging to increase its impact investments and to commit to 5% impact investments of proprietary investment assets.

By the end of 2022, Zurich's says impact investing portfolio helped to avoid 3.2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) and impacted the lives of 4.7 million people on a yearly basis.

The total amount of impact investments is $6.3 billion with the $5.2 billion invested in green, social, and sustainability bonds forming the largest part of Zurich's impact investing portfolio.

Danielle BrasselThe Zurich Carbon Neutral World Equity Fund (launched in 2021) is now available in eight countries and during 2022, net flows into the fund were €86 million ($94 million) with assets under management of €253 million by the end of the year. Zurich also has started working on expanding its carbon-neutral fund range.

In 2022, almost all of Zurich's assets were managed by a signatory to the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) or asset managers meeting Zurich's requirements for responsible investment.
