Net zero progression of the year, APAC: The Celestial Earth

The Celestial Earth was named as the winner of this year's Net zero progression of the year, APAC award for its work in helping Indian states and cities to achieve their net-zero targets by 2050.

Dr. Anindya BhattacharyaSpecifically, the consultancy's Gurugram Climate Action Plan 2050 was praised by judges for its "ambition and coverage of stakeholders in achieving net zero", adding "this project stands out against other entries".

The Gurugram Climate Action Plan 2050 acts as a road map for reducing emissions, promoting economic expansion, improving quality of life, and protecting the environment, according to The Celestial Earth.

Its study on the financial and technology hub explored the climate change impacts in the city from rapid urbanisation and industrial growth, including higher greenhouse gas emissions, rising temperatures, deteriorating air quality, and flood risks.

As such, the plan provided Gurugram authorities with a roadmap to tackle many of the climate with strategies targeting four sectors stationary energy, transport, waste, and AFOLU (Agriculture, Forest, and Other Land Use). It also put in place various monitoring methods for authorities to measure progress and help them towards their net zero ambition by 2050.
