Environmental Finance judges chose Carbon Neutral Technology Corporation as the winners of the Circular economy transition – Americas category this year, highlighting its unique approach to refurbishing of corporate IT sales for resale or remarketing and generating verified carbon credits.
The Toronto-headquartered company's CO2Neutral programme eliminates the need for new equipment to be manufactured and the associated carbon emissions. Its carbon credits are Verified Emissions Reductions-registered and serialised on the Canadian Standards Association's CleanProjects Registry and suitable for retirement worldwide.
In 2023, the programme remarketed and recycled 112,288 and 60,733 IT assets, respectively, avoiding more than 82 metric tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from recycling and 20,605 tonnes from remarketing.
It said the circular design principles of eliminating e-waste and pollution, circulating or remarketing refurbished IT assets, and regenerating nature by reducing GHG emissions and use of virgin resources were integrated into its products, services and operations to minimise e-waste and extend the lifecycle of IT assets.
