In 2020, BTG Pactual launched its Sustainable & Impact Investing division to consolidate it as a hub to connect global investors to local environmental, social and governance (ESG) and impact investing opportunities in Latin America.
Under this division, BTG has set itself the goal of developing financial products with a serious ESG and impact approach, as well as seeking and structuring new business opportunities that generate long-term financial, environmental and social value for its stakeholders.
So far with this new ESG focus, BTG has launched a carbon trading initiative to develop the market in Brazil, Landscape Capital strategy targeting $1 billion for the reforestation of degraded lands across Latin America, a $100+ million Impact Investing Fund with a focus on private equity investments in small and medium enterprises. It has also developed its Green, Social and Sustainable Financing framework and raised $690 million in green bond issuances, while structuring its first SDG-linked bilateral credit transaction to finance one of the main biodiesel producers in Brazil.
"BTG Pactual is thrilled to win this prestigious impact award for our pioneer positioning since the launch of our Sustainable & Impact Investing division, seeking business opportunities that generate strong financial, environmental and social values as core to our strategy, developing the Latin American industry," said Mariana Oiticica, co-head of the ESG & Impact Investing division at BTG Pactual.
In addition, in the last year BTG Pactual has become the first Brazilian financial institution to join the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) and the first in Latin America to be included in the Nasdaq Sustainable Bond Network.
